Chidori is the heir to a household that has practiced Japanese tea ceremony for generations, but she has no personal interest in these traditions or carrying on the family business. She’s more enamored with modern and foreign trends and attends an American university. However, she’s called back to Japan and has to endure her strict mother and uncomfortable, constricting kimono.
Chidori meets a local kimono merchant and cleaner, Saiuchi Tsumugi. Although Tsumugi always maintains a polite smile, his words are sharp and he’s not shy about sharing criticism. Although a bit harsh and hard to read, he never completely rebuffs Chidori. She is intrigued by Tsumugi, always finding herself drawn back to his shop. But before she can get to know him better, she has to deal with her mother’s plans for an arranged marriage. With Tsumugi’s (not particularly gentle) encouragement, Chidori has to assert herself and decide her own future.

Transfer student Yuuki Yuriya does not participate in church services or Bible study, so he is rumored to be the culprit behind the recent "demonic ceremonies" occurring at Seirei Academy. Truthfully, he has never before been involved with the supernatural—until one evening, when he witnesses an unknown girl jump from the school rooftop. Next to her bloody corpse, he finds a mysterious book containing instructions he feels compelled to follow. Yuuki is shocked when he successfully summons Demon King Belial, who offers to enter into a contract with him.
God bestows miracles unfairly and according to his own will, whereas demons grant wishes to specific humans who are deserving. Yuuki is tempted by these words, but he is also skeptical, so he asks for the dead girl to be resurrected in demonstration of Belial's powers. In the next instant, he is transported to a desolate battleground, where he learns that God has abandoned him for the sin of seeking assistance from a demon. Now, he must fight against other contractors in this purgatory called Cartagra.
Regardless of the outcome, Yuuki's soul is forfeit to Belial. However, if he can survive, then he may realize his desire to purge all evil in the world and even prosecute the unjust God.

Kuranosuke did not consider the possibility of forming a family at that time, but to help the smart Wakaba, he eventually accepted Kazushi into his life again. However, Kuranosuke couldn't imagine that he meant much more to Kazushi than just as a mother to Wakaba.

Haru, a fun lovable, easygoing guy possesses an out of control ability. A serial arsonist has been a problem for some time in the city where Haru lives. Haru's ability flares and burns Natsu, his friend and girlfriend, half to death when he's accused of being the arsonist and she tries to comfort him. She survives and promises to protect him and help him through the problems his ability puts him through.
